Circular design at the heart of the Netherlands Pavilion
Cooloo is proud to contribute to the Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, showcasing our commitment to sustainable innovation and circular design.
At the center of the pavilion stands the iconic sphere, a 10.6 meter diameter structure symbolizing the sun’s power and the potential of renewable energy. Cooloo has designed and crafted the circular bench encircling this sphere, utilizing recycled cork to create a seamless and durable seating solution. This bench not only offers visitors a place to rest but also embodies the pavilion’s theme of sustainability and innovation.

Sustainable furnishings for the expo shop
Beyond the sphere, Cooloo has furnished the pavilion’s expo shop and café with custom-made tables, counters, and seating. These pieces are crafted using our unique technique of applying a layer of waste streams such as leather, denim, and cork – onto objects, resulting in stylish and sustainable furniture. This approach aligns with the pavilion’s commitment to circularity and responsible material use.
A new dawn
The theme of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” This ambition resonates deeply with the Netherlands. Together with partners across the globe, the Netherlands is striving to address many of the challenges facing our societies and our planet. These challenges are too big to solve alone.
By working together from common ground, we can create innovative and sustainable solutions. This out-of-the-box and holistic approach was a perfect match for Dutch radical innovator Cooloo. Therefore, they joined forces to create the interior for the shop and iconic sphere of the fully circular Netherlands Pavilion, designed by RAU.
